We are playing catch up. This post is about our anchorage June 26, 27 and 28.
We love donkeys, especially the inimitable HRH Donk (Donk, if you are reading this post, know that we miss you!). Therefore when we read about Donkey Bay in our cruising guide we knew it was a must-see. And we liked it so much that we spent 2 nights there. Donk would be proud.
Before entering Thomas Bay, which contains Donkey Bay, we decided to troll for a few minutes for a salmon. Almost immediately Peter caught this halibut at the mouth of the bay. We dropped the lines again and a few minutes later we caught and released a 14 pound spring salmon! Meanwhile we were surrounded by hundreds of birds and a large number of humpback whales. The richness of the marine environment here is amazing. See the video link at the end of this post to see and hear the whales.
Filleting the fish. Perfect size for eating, not too small, not too big and provides at least eight meals for us.
Two fillets ready to vacuum pack.
Our navigation relies primarily on our chart plotter. Here is an image of Invictus heading into our anchorage in Donkey Bay. It's a beautiful spot!

Donk! How cool is that! ❤

ReplyDeleteWhat a paradise! I wonder why it’s named Donkey Bay?
ReplyDeleteI love being camped on a beach and hearing whales go by during the night, don’t hear a thing except that soft blowing sound, so distinctive. ❤️
